ELECTIONS BY THE ACBL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Law 12C3:
ACBL elects to specify otherwise. The provisions of this Law do not apply for ACBL (Zone 2) sanctioned contests.

Law 16A1:
At ACBL sanctioned events, competitors will not be allowed to announce that they reserve the right to summon the Director later. They should summon the Director immediately when they believe there may have been extraneous information available to the opponents resulting in calls or bids which could result in damage to their side.

Law 18F:
The ACBL Board of Directors authorizes sponsoring organizations in Zone 2 to use bidding boxes. Any alternative method which is necessary to enable a person with a disability to compete is authorized subject to the approval of the Chief Director.

Law 40D:
One notrump openings with fewer than eight high-card points are barred in all ACBL sanctioned events.

An opening one bid in a suit which by partnership agreement could show fewer than eight high-card points is not allowed. This does not apply to an opening bid intended as a psych.

Law 40E:
Both members of a partnership must employ the same system that appears on the convention card.
1. During a session of play, a system may not be varied, except with permission of the tournament director. (A director might allow a pair to change a convention, but would not allow a pair to change their basic system.)
2. At the outset of a round or session, a pair may review their opponents' convention card and alter their defenses against the opponents' conventional calls and preemptive bids. This must be announced to their opponents. The opponents may not vary their system after being informed of these alterations in defense.
Footnote to Law 40E:
Defenses to methods permitted by the ACBL Mid-Chart and/or Super-Chart are designated as "unusual methods" and may be referred to during the auction.

Law 41A & Law 45A:

Face-down opening leads are required at all ACBL sanctioned contests.

Law 61B:
The restriction that otherwise would prohibit defenders from asking one another whether they have a card of the suit led shall not apply, unless otherwise specified by action of the ACBL Board of Directors.

Law 93B1:
The ACBL Board of Directors authorizes sponsoring organizations in Zone 2 to designate certain contests in which either of the following differing conditions of appeal may apply:
1. The Chief Director shall hear and rule upon all appeals, or
2. The Chief Director shall hear all appeals, but may refer the matter to an appropriate committee.
