INFO

This WWW edition of the Laws uses neither JavaScript nor frames.

There are three other WWW editions of the Laws:

  1. With a layout using frames and JavaScript,
  2. With a layout using frames but not JavaScript,
  3. With a layout using JavaScript but no frames.
If your browser neither supports frames nor JavaScript, please use this edition of the Laws, but if it supports either JavaScript or frames, you may use one or more of the other editions.

Changes in all WWW editions of the English version of the Laws compared to the printed edition published by the EBU:

  1. Three headings have been added - (in Law 9A2(a), in Law 12C3 and in Law 43B3). These headings are all displayed using a grey colour.
  2. The references in the index are to Laws (while they are to page numbers in the printed edition).
  3. The index is slightly extended compared to the index in the printed edition.
Furthermore, from this info-page you have access to two "appendices", which are not parts of the Laws (and which do no not appear in the printed version of the Laws):
Appendix I  - On Screen Procedures
Appendix II - On Bidding Box Procedures for Use without Screens
Appendix I was included in the final draft from the Drafting Committee. Appendix II is from the EBU.

You can return to the Laws from the two appendices, but not vice versa - except from this info-page.

The English version of the Laws is made from the European version of the Laws (distributed by the European Bridge League). There are two small differences*) in the law text of these two versions, but the Preface to the European version is different from that of the English version.

The Copyright of the 1997 Code in all non-English speaking countries in Europe (other than Spain and Portugal) is vested in the European Bridge League.
The Copyright in the area of the British Commonwealth past and present (other than the Western Hemisphere), the Continent of Africa, Spain, Portugal and all English speaking countries in the Eastern Hemisphere is vested in the Portland Club.
The Copyright in the Western Hemisphere and in the Republic of the Philippines is vested in the American Contract Bridge League.

Extracts from these Laws either verbatim or paraphrased are not permitted without the sanction of the Authority holding the Copyright.

All pages which are not part of the English version of the Laws are displayed with the same background colour as this page.

*) Law 6D2: 'pack' [EBU] / 'deck' [EBL] - obvious a mistake in the European version.
Law 12C3: 'to achieve equity' [EBU] / 'to do equity' [EBL].
